Report of a pilot study of the system of
therapy with negative pressure for the prevention of infections in the surgical site in
Obstetrics. Infections associated to health
care still continue as a severe sanitary
problem due to the assistential, economical and social impact that their represent.
At present it is estimated that more than
100 millions of persons in the world will
suffer yearly at least one of these kind of
infections and that more tan 20 millions
will die due to this etiology. Infections of
the surgical site are responsible of between 15-20 % of the nosocomial infections, by
which they constitute a severe health problem.
This study represents the first experience
with the use of negative pressure therapy
following Cesarean section in morbid obese
patients in our country. Of the total of the
pregnants admitted none presented infections following surgical wound infection
after Cesarean section. The aim of the experience was to evaluate prospectively in 10
patients the use of negative pressure wound
therapy in patients deemed at high risk for
wound infection.
