El presente estudio de tipo descriptivo correlacional, en la que se investigó la relación entre las variables clima social familiar e inteligencia emocional en 367 adolescentes pertenecientes al 3º, 4ºy 5º grado de educación secundaria de la Institución Educativa San Pedro, de la ciudad de Chimbote, utilizando como instrumentos la escala de clima social familiar FES y el inventario de inteligencia emocional BarOn Ice.

Se evaluó la relación entre el clima social familiar y sus dimensiones:

relaciones, desarrollo y estabilidad, con el nivel general de inteligencia emocional, mediante la aplicación del Coeficiente de Correlación de Pearson, encontrándose que existe relación significativa entre el clima social familiar y la inteligencia emocional.

Respecto a las dimensiones:

relaciones, desarrollo y estabilidad del clima social familiar también se encuentra relación significativa con la inteligencia emocional en los adolescentes de 3º, 4ºy 5º grado de educación secundaria de la Institución Educativa San Pedro, de la ciudad de Chimbote.
This is a descriptive correlational study in which the relation between the social –environmental characteristics of the families and the emotional intelligence was measured. The search took place at the educational Institution San Pedro of Chimbote city where the study subjects were 367 teenagers belonging to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade of secondary education. To measure the social –environmental characteristics of the students’ emotional intelligence the inventory of emotional intelligence BarOn Ice was used.

The general level of social family climate and its dimensions were evaluated:

relations, development and stability, with the general level of emotional intelligence, by means of the application of the Pearson Correlation Coefficient finding that significant relation exists between the social family climate and the emotional intelligence.

With regard to the dimensions:

relations, development and stability of the social family climate are also related significantly to the emotional intelligence in the teenagers of 3º, 4º and 5º degree of secondary education of the Educational Institution San Pedro of Chimbote City.
