Determinar la relaci¢n entre el uso de las tecnolog¡as de la informaci¢n y comunicaci¢n (TIC) y el rendimiento acadmico en estudiantes de odontolog¡a frente a las estrategias did cticas convencionales. Material y mtodos. Estudio cuasiexperimental, conformado por dos grupos: experimental (16 alumnos) y control (32 alumnos). En el grupo experimental se aplic¢ dos plataformas TIC: (plataforma educativa EDMODO y videoconferencia ELLUMINATE). Posteriormente, se compar¢ el rendimiento acadmico de ambos grupos en las competencias conceptuales, procedimentales y actitudinales. Resultados. En el grupo experimental, los estudiantes alcanzaron un rendimiento acadmico bueno (56,3%), y en el grupo control regular (53,1%). Sin embargo, al analizar los datos mediante la prueba de chi cuadrado, no se encontr¢ relaci¢n significativa (p>0,05) entre ambas variables.Conclusiones. Aunque hay una tendencia a incrementar el rendimiento acadmico en el grupo experimental esta no es significativa.
To determine the relationship between the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and academicperformance in dental students versus conventional teaching strategies. Material and methods. Quasi-experimental study, consistingof two groups: experimental (16 students) and control group (32 students). In the experimental group two ict platforms were applied(educational platform Edmodo and video conferencing Elluminate). Then, the academic performance of both groups in conceptual,procedural and attitudinal competences was compared. Results. In the experimental group, the students achieved academicperformance good (56,3%) and in the control group regular (53,1%). However, when data was analyzed, using the chi square test,there was not significant relationship (p> 0,05) between the two variables. Conclusions. Although there is a tendency to increaseacademic performance in the experimental group, it is not statistically significant.
