Antecedente. El objetivo del presente estudio fue investigar la incidencia y los factores de riesgo de la Retinopatía del Prematuro, así como analizar la ocurrencia de tratamiento quirúrgico de ROP y evaluar los resultados de la enfermedad a corto plazo en el Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren en Perú. Métodos. Este es un estudio Observacional, analítico de casos y controles, incluyo a todos los neonatos con un peso al nacer menor a 2000 gramos o una edad gestacional Resultados: La incidencia de Retinopatía del prematuro fue de 26.32 por ciento, siendo la distribución según estadio evolutivo 46.7 por ciento ROP grado 1; 35.6 por ciento ROP grado 2; y ,17.8 por ciento ROP grado 3.

Los factores de riesgo significativos para ROP fueron:

edad gestacional menor de 33 semanas, Muy bajo peso al nacer, Usó de ventilación mecánica y CPAP, transfusión sanguínea, sepsis y Hemorragia intraventricular. 17.8 por ciento con ROP estadio 3 requirieron terapia láser.

Background:

This study aims to investigate the incidence and the risk factors of retinopathy of prematurity, as well as to analyze the occurrence of surgical treatment of ROP and to evaluate the short term outcome of the disease in Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren in Peru.

Methods:

It is a retrospective study, controls and cases of newborn infants; all infants with a birth weight (BW) <=2000 gr. and/or a gestational age (GA) <=36 weeks born between January and December 2011 in Alberto Sabogal Sologuren neonatal service.

Results:

the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity was 26.32 per cent, according to stage 46.7 per cent developed ROP 1, 35.6 per cent ROP 2 and 17.8 per cent ROP 3. The mainly involved risk factors in the retinopathy of neonates are gestational age (<=33 weeks, very low birth weight, mechanical ventilation, CPAP, blood transfusions, sepsis and intraventricular hemorrhage. 17.8 per cent cases with ROP stage 3 were treated by laser retinal photocoagulation.
