Since the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, testing, contact tracing, and isolation have been the primary tools for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection control. The early detection of emerging outbreaks or new variants is the first critical step in disease control.
