Since the start of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, testing, contact tracing, and isolation have been the primary tools for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection control. The early detection of emerging outbreaks or new variants is the first critical step in disease control. Quick testing of early suspected cases enables timely epidemic response actions to be taken, ultimately limiting the spread and impact of the disease.
